Here’s who I am:

I’m Dave Martel, a mortgage loan originator with Barrett Financial, one of the largest mortgage brokers in the country. My journey into homeownership and the mortgage industry wasn’t typical—it started with a few unexpected opportunities, some resilience, and a lot of learning.

I became a homeowner at a young age, qualifying for an FHA loan to buy a four-unit property while working a low-wage hourly job. I didn’t come from wealth or have a financial plan; I just saw an opportunity and took a leap. That investment opened doors for me, allowing me to grow and eventually purchase the home my wife and I dreamed of. I didn’t have anyone to guide me through these big decisions, but I learned by doing—and those experiences shaped who I am today.

Looking back, I realized that most of my peers weren’t given the same opportunities or knowledge. Many of us entered the workforce during a challenging economic time, probably one of the toughest in recent history. That’s when it hit me: while the government puts mortgage products out there to help people, there’s often a lack of accessible education and guidance for first-time homebuyers, especially for millennials. I decided I wanted to fill that gap.

Now, as a mortgage professional with Barrett, I’m here to be more than just a loan originator—I’m your lifelong partner and advocate. I don’t see mortgages as merely transactions. My goal is to be your consultant through every stage of your mortgage journey.
